چکیده

We derive transport theoretic boundary conditions for acoustic wave reflection at a weakly rough boundary in an inhomogeneous half space. We use the Wigner distribution to go from waves to energy transport in the high frequency limit. We generalize known results on the reflection of acoustic plane waves in a homogeneous medium. We analyze higher order corrections, which include a enhanced backscattering effect in the back direction. © 1999 American Institute of Physics. @S0022-2488~99!02009-5#

D-Wave Superconductors near Surfaces and Interfaces: A Scattering Matrix Approach within the Quasiclassical Technique

A recently developed method [A. Shelankov and M. Ozana, Phys. Rev. B 61, 7077 (2000)] is applied to investigate d-wave superconductors in the vicinity of (rough) surfaces. While this method allows the incorporation of arbitrary interfaces into the quasiclassical technique, we discuss, as examples, diffusive surfaces and boundaries with small tilted mirrors (facets). The properties of the surfac...

Statistics of radiation in a disordered medium: from ballistic to diffusive regime

The distribution function for the intensity of radiation propagating in a random medium is analyzed for arbitrary multiplicity of scattering (for arbitrary relation between the distance of propagation and mean free path), including as limiting cases purely ballistic and purely diffusive regimes. The calculation is fulfilled in the framework of diagram techniques and is based on the topological ...

Electromagnetic wave scattering from a random layer with rough interfaces II: Diffusive intensity

A general approach for the calculation of the incoherent intensity scattered by a random medium with rough boundaries has been developed using a Green function formalism. The random medium consists of spherical particles whose physical repartition is described by a pair-distribution function. The boundary contribution is included in the Green functions with the help of scattering operators whic...

Scattering and Transmission of Waves in Multiple Random Rough Surfaces: Energy Conservation Studies with the Second Order Small Perturbation Method

Energy conservation is an important consideration in wave scattering and transmission from random rough surfaces and is particularly important in passive microwave remote sensing. In this paper, we study energy conservation in scattering from layered random rough surfaces using the second order small perturbation method (SPM2). SPM2 includes both first order incoherent scattering and a second o...

1D energy transport in a strongly scattering laboratory model.

Radiative transfer (RT) theory is often invoked to describe energy propagation in strongly scattering media. Fitting RT to measured wave field intensities is rather different at late times, when the transport is diffusive, than at intermediate times (around one extinction mean free time), when ballistic and diffusive behavior coexist. While there are many examples of late-time RT fits, we descr...
